A coupling element used in scaffolding to lock two intersecting poles that has been carved out of a piece of stone. An interplay between the natural material of marble and a shape that is a signifier, heralding a change to come. The basic framework of scaffolding allows for the dismantling of the lived environment as well as its reconstruction. The couplings new materiality immortalises it; standing for something altogether different from the utilisable but temporary counterpart. Alluding to a melding of futures, where humanities interventions on geology might twist back, folding in toward a geology of coexistence.
Exhibited in "I Knock on Your Skin" at SET Woolwich, "Lost in a Just-in-Time Supply Chain" at Hypha Studios Catford and "Quarry" at Dovetail in London Fields. The work has been installed with and without a scaffolding ladder platform as a plinth.
